Fran Tapia (she,her) is a Chilean powerhouse. As a versatile singer, songwriter, actor, dancer and director, her talents have transcended boundaries, earning her the following recognitions this year: Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Musical (Helen Category) for her portrayal of Gloria Fajardo in “On Your Feet, En Español”, another Helen Hayes Award as Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical (Helen Category) for “Revoltosa” and a Broadway World Washington DC Award as Best Supporting Performer in a Musical for “On Your Feet, En Español.”

Fran Tapia’s boundless talent and dedication to her craft have taken her today to work on her biggest passion: Songwriting. She is currently writing her first solo Album and collaborating with other artists. You can hear her first published work as a lyricist, song “Ese Mar”, which is included in highly anticipated new album Songs by an Immigrant Vol. 2 by Jaime Lozano, heralded by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda as “the next big thing on Broadway.” Lozano, Mexican musical multi-hyphenate and Lincoln Center regular celebrated the album released by award-winning label Concord Records, featuring an all-star Latine lineup of Broadway and Off-Broadway performers.

As a multifaceted artist, you can see Fran as Director of Paso Nuevo Youth Program on John Leguizamo´s First Season of “Leguizamo Does America,” sharing her interest on fostering Latinx and BIPOC youth´s involvement in the Arts. From January to March 2024, Fran assumed the role of co-director at Strathmore Spring Camp, where she led a stage and musical adaptation of “Coat of Many Colors” with fourth and fifth grade students. Currently, she continues her commitment to youth development at Strathmore by serving as a mentor in the Arts and Social Justice Fellowship (ASJF) program. This educational initiative promotes youth leadership at the confluence of the arts and social change, highlighting its commitment to training future leaders in these critical fields. You can also catch her as host and creator of “Divino Tesoro”, a podcast on LGBTQI+ childhood (Spotify). 

Fran’s journey in the performing arts has taken her across the globe, with notable roles in the US including: starring as Eva Perón in GALA´s “Mummy in The Closet, Evita´s Return” ; Gloria Fajardo in the On Your Feet Broadway National Tour 2022-2023 in the United States which included renowned theatres as Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine; A dynamic role in In The Heights at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, where she participated as an ensemble member and understudied for Camila and Daniela (performed); A World Premiere of On Your Feet, En Español as Gloria Fajardo (lead) and the understudy for Gloria Estefan at GALA Hispanic Theatre, a national center for Latino Performing Arts in the nation´s capital, under the Direction and Choreography of Broadway veteran Luis Salgado. Fran’s artistry extends to the world of dance, where she has left her mark in captivating performances across Europe: She participated as a lead voice and dancer in productions like “Emergence” in Hamburg, “Rite of Spring” in Hamburg, Marseille, and Amsterdam, and “Tramas” in Amsterdam, all choreographed by José Vidal, renowned in the contemporary scene. Her work in Chile had it´s highlight in her iconic appearance in Cats at the Municipal Theatre of Las Condes in Santiago, where she portrayed Demeter under the direction of Argentinean Choreographer Eduardo Yedro.
